A Monument to Sacrifice, A Commitment to the Future

The Caring Community Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is leading the effort to restore the Veterans Memorial Arch—a historic tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives in the Great War and beyond.

This is more than a restoration; it’s a legacy project that ensures the sacrifices of our veterans are never forgotten. And we are calling upon corporate leaders to take part in this historic effort to honor the 700 students and alumni of the St Marys Kansas region who fought in The Great War to protect our way of life.

The History of the Memorial Arch

A Tribute to Those Who Gave Everything

The memorial honors the sacrifices of soldiers from our community who fought in World War I and beyond.

Originally built to commemorate local heroes, the structure has stood for a century as a testament to bravery and service.

Over time, the memorial has deteriorated, and this initiative seeks to restore and preserve it for future generations.

Lt. William T. Fitzsimons – The First Fallen U.S. Officer of WWI

  • Lt. Fitzsimons was the first American officer killed in action during World War I

  • His story is a symbol of the ultimate sacrifice, representing thousands of soldiers who followed.

  • Restoring this memorial arch ensures that his sacrifice—and the sacrifices of all veterans—will never be forgotten.
